Hello all my beautiful bunnies!!
Its been a wee while since I posted, so I thought I would kick off with an overview of my skincare routine and how its changed now I’m In my 30’s. I can remember turning 30 like it was yesterday, I approached it with a jumble of feelings and there were certainly quite a few questions burning in my mind – Am I officially old? Does this mean I’m an adult? Will everything start to sag/droop/wrinkle? – these were just a few of the thoughts I had in the midst of my 1/4 life crisis!! Now I’m officially ‘in my 30’s’ I can happily say that this is probably the happiest and most comfortable I have been in my life so far and most of the insecurities that plagued my teens and 20’s are pretty much gone. When I look back at old photographs of myself, I thank God that I now have a more… shall we say….. ‘sophisticated’ understanding of fashion and make-up – lets just say more than a few ‘questionable’ choices were made in my younger years.
I love these brilliant illustrations, created by illustrator Jessica Saia and writer Cecilia Rabess which visually in an all-too-real way explain what the third decade is really like.
Anyway enough of my babbling and lets get down to the task in hand!! As we age, so does our skin and what worked in our 20’s, wont do us any favours in our 30’s. Long gone are the days of getting away with using a cleansing wipe to remove your make-up and slapping on some basic moisturiser – does Astral ring any bells….. 🙂 Now us ladies have a whole host of new skincare dilemmas to battle such as fine lines, wrinkles and sun damage – I can freely admit I used to bake anytime there was a hint of sunshine and hands up if you used a sunbed in your 20’s – I certainly did!! Luckily for me, I have been blessed with pretty good skin and I’ve always looked quite young for my age, something I hated when I was in my early 20’s but I thank my lucky stars for it now!!
For me, my skincare routine is one of the most important parts of my beauty regime and below is some of the rules and routine I live by:
1. ALWAYS Remove Your Make-up
I cant stress how important this is, even if I can barely keep my eyes open before bed, I always remove my make-up. This has been a staple part of my routine since a teenager, not just in my 30’s and whilst your younger skin is able to escape the effects of leaving your make-up on, your 30 year old skin certainly wont. Think clogged pores, dry/dehydrated skin, breakouts, premature ageing, irritated and infected skin – all consequences of not removing your make-up.
Before bed I always give my face a wash with warm, soapy water then remove any lingering product with a facial cleansing wipe. I use Soap & Glory Off Your Face Cleansing Cloths, these are just £4.50 a pack and can be found at your local Boots.
Post make-up removal, I always cleanse using Garnier Micellar Water. I have been using this product for the last few years and I love it. I apply this with a cotton pad, wiping over the face, eye and lip area – you will be amazed at the leftover dirt on your skin even after washing and using a facial wipe. The Micellar Water is really light, leaving your skin feeling fresh and thoroughly cleansed.
I half to admit this is the part I always used to miss from my routine until I discovered Pixi Glow Tonic. Described as an oxygenating and exfoliating facial glow tonic, Pixi claims that this watery peach liquid helps to tone, firm and tighten. As well as helping to remove dead skin cells from the surface for healthier looking skin, it’s suitable for all skin types (including sensitive) it’s alcohol free and contains soothing aloe vera. I have been using this for about 2 months now and I love it, my skin is clearer, smoother and brighter – its basically the holy grail of toners!!
This stuff was like gold dust when it was first released back in November last year and as much as I love my branded products, I cant get enough of Aldi skincare. My husband managed to get me two of these gift boxes at Christmas time and I was over the moon. The Aldi Lacura Caviar Cream flew off the shelves as it was championed as a budget alternative to much more expensive anti-ageing creams, particularly La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream (RRP £292.00). Personally I have never used La Prairie but I do use Lacura Caviar Night Cream before bed religiously, it has a lovely light consistency which doesn’t make your skin feel greasy or loaded with product. I love this so much, I have bought 2 more jars of it incase it sells out again!
6. Facial Oil
Facial oil is another new addition to my skincare routine, I have to admit I’ve always been a little hesitant in using an oil on my face just incase it brought on a huge breakout, but after reading countless reviews by beauty bloggers, I purchased Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate – an overnight elixir that works to replenish your skin with moisture. It works as you sleep to help your skin recover radiance leaving it feeling smoother and softer. I use 2 drops at the very end of my bedtime routine, gently pressing onto my skin then massaging it in. Don’t get me wrong you do initially feel like your face is completely wet and about to slide off but the oil absorbs within 10-15 mins. If you haven’t tried this product before, I’d definitely recommend it.
5. Face Mask Once a Week
I’ve got to admit, applying a face mask is one of my favourite things to do and I add this to my routine once a week for a little bit of extra pamper time. I have spoken before about my love of sheet masks but they can be really expensive, so I really wanted a good cheaper alternative. I was recommended the Lush Cup O’ Coffee Face & Body Mask by a friend and I haven’t looked back! The mask is made from actual coffee so it’s ground coffee, caffeine powder, and coffee infusion as well as fragrance additives, kaolin, and glycerine. It has quite a thick consistency and very grainy so probably not a good choice for anyone with sensitive skin. This acts as a mask and an exfoliating scrub which I love, it gets rid of any dead skin cells and leaves my skin feeling super fresh and soft.
1. Cleanse & Buff
During my morning shower I love to use Kiehl’s Blue Herbal Cleanser and my Olay Regenerist Face Brush. I love Kiehl’s products and this is one of my favourites, in fact, I don’t think I could live without it now! It smells minty fresh and used with my Olay skin brush, its the perfect combination to gently exfoliate my skin and keep it really soft.
2. Cleanse & Tone
Again I use my Garnier Micellar Water to cleanse the skin after showering and then my Pixi Glow Tonic to tone.
Again another great Kiehl’s product in my collection – Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. This cream is airy and ultra lightweight which absorbs into the skin fairly quickly without leaving a greasy residue – I don’t know about you, but I really hate heavy thick face creams! I have been using this since Christmas and I really do feel it has made a difference to my skin. I am prone to breakouts which can sometimes be brought on by face creams, but this is so light, it doesn’t irritate my skin in any way, its such a lovely product.

It probably seems like I use quite a lot of products but I definitely think you need to ‘up the ante’ as you get older and I really believe in looking after your skin. I love to try new products and enjoy having some quality pamper time, this is what works for me.
If there are any great products that you use, I’d love to know.
I hope you have enjoyed reading.
Until next time,
